Four Lines of the Field Trip Canclled
Since there are less than 10 people registered for the Pre-symposium field trips and the Post-symposium field trip Line 1, 3, 4A and 4B, the LOC decided to cancel these four lines. If you have booked the above four lines, please change your travel schedule accordingly.
Deadline for Field Trip Application: June 30, 2008
The Loc will determine which line of the field trip will take place according to the number of participants reserved on June 30, 2008. So if you are interested in the field trips, would you please register online as soon as possible?
Post-symposium field trips
2. The Triassic Jinshajiang Suture Red River-Ailaoshan mountain range, south Yunnan, southwest China
The Jinshajiang (Jinsha River) Suture developed in Triassic when continental fragments once belonging to Gondwana collided with margin of the Yangtze Craton. Outcrops of ophiolitic mélange, pillow lava, and colorful chert of Tethys on the north of Gondwana, as well as the Diancangshan shear zone, the north section of the Red River shear zone, will be visited. Sightseeing stops visiting exciting gorge of Jinsha River, beautiful Shangri-la scenery, and old Lijiang township are included.
Route: Dali – Zhongdian – Deqin – Lijiang – Dali
Duration: 4 days.

Fees: 560 US$/person

**The trip will end after dinner on Sept. 21. Anybody who want to stay in the hotel one night more (for the night of Sept. 21) should pay for the room fee seperately.

Traveling from Deqin to Lijiang. Geological stops to visit the Diancangshan Ductile Shear Zone. |

Sightseeing in Lijiang. Back to Dali from Lijiang. End of the Field Trip

Stop 1. Deposits of Carboniferous passive continental margin
Carbonate breccia, calcareous turbidite and black radiolarian siliceous rocks can be observed in the outcrop.
Stop 2. The ophiolitic mélange in the Shusong-Gongka
The typical ophiolitic mélange can be seen here. The ophiolitic mélange consists of purplish red siliceous rock, serpentinite, basalt and limestone blocks etc.
Stop 3. The molasse formation in Luna-Dongzhulin Temple
The molasse formation contains mainly purplish red conglomerate and gravel-bearing sandstone. Most part of gravels can be found in the underlying ophiolitic mélange.
Stop 4. The ophiolitic mélange in Dongzhulin Temple-Shusong
The ophiolitic mélange here is composed of purplish red, greyish green, grey and black siliceous rocks, basalt, cumulatic gabbro and greywacke blocks.
Stop 5. The Ophiolite Suite in the East of the Baimang Snow Mt. Pass
The location is one of the typical sections of Jinsajiang ophiolite suites made up of block gabbro as well as cumulus crystal gabbro, sheet dike swarm, pillow lava and brecciform lava basalt.
Stop 6. The granodiorite on the west slope of the Baimang Snow Mt.
Stop 7. Yugong Formation with cool water coral
The Yugong Formation is the thick-bedded limestone containing cool water coral. T Yugong Formation is thrusting westwards onto the calcareous turbidite of Jidonlong Formation.
