Right after the Olympic 2008, the Gondwana 13 Conference will be held in Dali, Yunnan Province, China on 15-18 September 2008, followed by Field Trips on 19-22, 2008.
The assembly, evolution and dispersal of supercontinents, including the Gondwanaland, forms important frontier investigations in the Earth Science, which shed light onto the better understanding of most orogenic belts and the origin of continental crust. However, the creation, dispersal, amalgamation and destruction of supercontinents make the geodynamic processes more complicated than appreciated before. Many issues have remained unsolved, such as the relationship and the interaction between the orogenic belts, basins, life evolution, and mineral deposits and resources during the assembly, evolution and dispersal of supercontinents. The geology, paleontology, tectonic history and mineralization of China play important roles in the study of Gondwanaland. The so-called Three-River region in Yunnan Province provides particularly good record in these aspects. Research in the fields of geology, paleontology, mineral deposits and tectonic history of these and other Gondwanan elements, and related tectonic processes, will form the basis for the theme of the conference “Gondwana in Asia”.
This is the first time that the international Gondwana Conference series will be held in Asia. The Gondwana 13 Conference is devoted to bringing together professionals in different fields of geology, geophysics, geochemistry, economic geology, and mineralogy: academic researchers and experts, students, and mining and exploration company personnel. The Conference will include invited keynote presentations across the spectrum of themes identified, as well as contributed oral and poster presentations which will provide state-of-the-art summaries of significant advances in the assembly, evolution and dispersal of supercontinents. The Conference will provide opportunities for scientists from around the world and a broad range of disciplines to exchange ideas and gain better understandings on various cutting edge geoscience issues. Join us in Dali to share understanding and to define common scientific goals for today and the future, and enjoy the multi cultural setting with a unique life-style, architecture, languages and food as well.
